Herminia "Minda" (Graca) Gomes, 91, of Lanham, Maryland, formerly of New Bedford, died at home on Easter Sunday March 27, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Amancio "Amos" Gomes.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Joaquim and Maria (Pina) Graca, she moved to New Bedford in 1956 and lived there until moving to Maryland in October 2014.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Survivors include five children, James Gomes and companion Stacey Steger of New Bedford, Mary Jane Williams, Jacqueline Price and her husband Milton, Joanna Gomes-Haddocks and her husband Rick, and Lisa Massey, all of Maryland; two stepchildren, Elaine Gomes of California and Amos Gomes, Jr. of Ohio; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Peter J. Graca and Mariana J. Santos, and stepmother of the late Diana Fortes, Elizabeth Rose, and Lucilia Mozer.
Her Funeral will be held on Monday April 4, 2016 at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday April 3, 2016 from 2-6 PM.
