TEWKSBURY: Charles E. “Charlie” Coughlin, age 72, a resident of Tewksbury for 50 years, passed away at the Lowell General Hospital on Monday, March 28, 2016
He was the beloved husband of Lois A. (Donaldson) Coughlin, who passed away on May 16, 1997.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island on June 26, 1943, he was the son of the late John V. Coughlin and the late Regina (Coutanche) Coughlin.
Charlie was raised in Providence and graduated from Hope High School.
In 1966, he moved to Tewksbury and became a communicant of St. William’s Parish.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a salesperson by the Genstar Rental Electronics Company in Woburn, where he worked for many years.
In 1997, he began working for the Maintenance Department for the Tewksbury High School and later at the Ryan Middle School until retiring in 2012.
Charlie was a member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks # 2070, the Tewksbury Knights of Columbus-Fr. Francis Coppens Council # 4336 and the U.S. Bunting & Cricket Club.
He was an avid sports fan and loved following and attending local, college and professional sports games.
In addition, Charlie also loved auto racing, especially NASCAR and the Daytona 500.
He is survived by four children, Paula J. Flynn and her husband Chet of West Townsend, Charles E. “Chuck” Coughlin, Jr. and his wife Marianne (Dwan) of Tewksbury, Sheila M. Borst and her husband Michael, and Robert J. Coughlin all of Townsend; five grandchildren, Emily J. Coughlin, Patrick H. Flynn, Katie L. Coughlin, Jessica E. and Christopher M. Borst; one sister, Mary Donnelly and her husband Martin of Warwick, RI; one brother, James T. Coughlin and his wife Nancy of N. Providence, RI; also many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Charlie was the brother of the late Sr. Regina “Jean” Coughlin, R.S.M. and John Coughlin, M.D.

Calling hours are Thursday, March 31, from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral will be held Friday, April 1, at 11 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 12 Noon at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury.
