Barbara Beatrice Noonan, 82, of Groton, died Sunday, March 27, 2016 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London. She was born on November 30, 1933 in New London the daughter of Clayton and Frances (Starkey) Beatrice. She grew up in Mystic, graduating from Robert E. Fitch High School in 1951. She married Gerard Noonan on June 5, 1954. He predeceased her in 1977. She worked for 20 years as a Teacher's Aide at Eastern Point and Groton Heights Elementary Schools.
Barbara was a longtime member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Mystic. She was a member of the Lunch Bunch Group of Fitch High School, Class of '51, a highlight of her life, spending time with her classmates. She loved to gather her family for holiday meals and picnics. She remained devoted to her children and to her late husband, Gerard.
She is survived by her son Michael Noonan and his wife Gretchen of North Stonington, her three daughters, Nancy Moon and her husband Randy of Groton, Doreen Hess of Harrisburg PA, and Lisa Noonan of Groton and her five grandchildren, Elise Sousa, Kevin Noonan, Kathryn Noonan, Erica Aube and Brittany Noonan. She is also survived by her brother Vernon Beatrice and wife Mary of Madison, CT, her sister Marilyn Schroeter and husband Walter of Mesa, AZ, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister Dorothy Tetrault and her husband Henry Tetrault.
The family would like to thank the caregivers from Visiting Angels of Southeastern CT, the staff at Apple Rehab Mystic and the sixth floor nurses at L&M Hospital, for the loving care that was extended to Barbara, with dignity, throughout her ten year struggle with Alzheimer's dementia.
Barbara's family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, April 1, from 2 to 5pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A Funeral Service will be conducted on Saturday at 2:00pm at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 15 Pearl Street, Mystic. Burial in Elm Grove Cemetery will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 15 Pearl St., Mystic, CT, 06355.
