Obituary

TOWNSEND, Jay Memory, 93, formerly of Louisville, passed away March 24, 2016 in Elizabethtown, NC.

A native of Lumberton, NC, Mr. Townsend was drafted into the US Army in 1943, and during his service received the Bronze Star, as well as other metals and ribbons. In 1946, he married Berenice Carol Morledge. He began to work at General Electric in the 1950’s and later retired from there in the late 80’s. He was a member of the Jeffersontown Masonic Lodge #774 and received the 60 year member pin. He became a Noble of the Kosair Shriners in 1972, later joining the Kosair Greeters, become President of the Greeters in 1993. Mr. Townsend served on the Kosair Charities Board of Directors from 2003-2009. He served on the Kosair Charities Advisory Board and was the Kosair Charities Liaison for Brooklawn Child & Family Services.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Berenice M. Townsend.

Survivors include his brother, Norwood Townsend, of Long Beach, CA; nieces, Kitty H. Raynor, Shelia Jenkins, Pam Butler, and Twyla Townsend; and nephews, Walter Bengston, Alex Bengston, Jimmy Townsend, and David Townsend.

Visitation 2-8pm Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Owen Funeral Home – Jeffersontown, 9318 Taylorsville Road. His service will be 11am Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the funeral home. Burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery.
