…retired Everett Police Chief; Korean War Veteran; 80
CONCORD, NH - George B. Stewart Jr., age 80, a retired Police Chief for the City of Everett, MA, died peacefully on Saturday evening, March 26, at the Greater Concord VNA Hospice House, in the loving care of his family and VNA staff. He was the beloved husband of Ann M. (Indelicato) Stewart, with whom he had celebrated a fifty-seventh wedding anniversary this past April 19th.
George was born in Cambridge, one of three children of the late George B. and Letitia (Mahoney) Stewart, and was raised in Chelsea and Everett. He graduated from Everett High School with the Class of 1954, and enlisted into the U.S. Navy, where he served aboard CV 32, the USS Leyte, off the coast of Korea. Upon his honorable discharge, he began a career with the Everett Police, which ended with his retirement as Chief of the Department in 1989.
George and his wife retired to Tewksbury, wintered in Delray Beach, Florida, and they returned to Concord, NH, in 2007.
He was a communicant of St. William’s Parish while living in Tewksbury, a member of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association, and a former member of the Everett Rotary Club.
George will be remembered forever for his love for his family, for his sharp wit, his quick smile, the twinkle in his eye as he attempted to “pull the wool over your eyes,” and his love for the game of golf in his retirement years.
Besides his beloved wife, he leaves three children; George of Dracut, MA, John and his wife Gina of N. Chelmsford, and Letitia “Leeann” Stewart of Campton, NH; and his two loving daughters-in-law Gina of N. Chelmsford and Martha of Littleton: six grandchildren; Joey, April, Sara, Mackenzie, Gianna, Francesca: three great grandchildren; Luka, Prudence and Sophia: a brother William Stewart and his wife Nancy of Port Charlotte, FL; a sister, Terry Barrett and her husband Ernie of Northport, FL; many nieces, nephews, and many dear friends he had acquired during his lifetime. George was predeceased by his beloved son, Michael.
Visiting hours Thursday, March 31, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. His funeral will begin Friday, April 1, at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass on Friday, at 10:30 a.m. in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, N. Tewksbury.
