Donald Ray Reynolds, Sr., 84, beloved husband of Janet “Jenny” Mathis Reynolds, entered into rest on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital, while surrounded by his family.
A lifetime resident of Augusta, Don was born on April 4, 1931, to the late Jesse Earl and Ruby Cawthon Reynolds. He graduated from Richmond Academy in 1948 and received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Georgia in 1952, remaining an avid Bulldog fan all of his life. After college, Don enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a military intelligence radio operator during the Korean War. Honorably discharged after three years of service, he returned home to Augusta to begin his successful career as a small business owner and real estate investor. He was the owner of Reynolds Furniture Co., a long-time business on Broad Street originally started by his father. Don was a devoted Christian and member of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church for over fifty years.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Don enjoyed spending time with his family, especially at the family farm in Grovetown. Surviving, in addition to his wife of nearly 58 years, are his sons, Donald “Ray” Reynolds, Jr. (Christy) of Martinez and Mark Wayne Reynolds (Sandra) of Johns Creek; his daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Kelly (Pat) of Augusta; and his four grandchildren, Jesse Reynolds, Madison Kelly, Kathleen Reynolds, and Patrick Kelly.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM on Tuesday, March 29, at Platt’s Funeral Home, 721 Crawford Ave., Augusta, with the Rev. Greg Hatfield officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM.
