Mrs. Mavis Minix Reese, 81, of Fitzgerald, died Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, March 26, 2016, at the Church of the Nazarene in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Dan Hayes, the Rev. David Ash, and the Rev. Barry Stephens officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Friday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Reese was born April 4, 1934, in Coffee County, Georgia, to the late Joe & Alda Mae Wright Minix. She was a former seamstress at Fitzgerald Underwear and served as office manager for the family businesses, Reese Fabricating and Reese Storage. Mrs. Reese enjoyed visiting the north Georgia mountains with her grandchildren and was an avid gardener. She loved to cook for her family and friends and will be remembered for her chocolate and her coconut pies as well as her fried okra. A member of the Church of the Nazarene, she formerly taught Sunday school in the Children’s Department.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Vernon Reese of Fitzgerald; her two sons: Dr. R.V. Reese, Jr. and his wife Joy of Fitzgerald and Bobby Reese of Fitzgerald; her grandchildren and their spouses: Rodney Reese of Fitzgerald, Dr. Paul & Jane Ellen Reese of Fitzgerald, Chad & Casey Reese of Jefferson, Randy & Andrea Reese of Forest Hills, New York, Russell & Hope Reese of Valdosta, and Ryan & Megan Reese of Fitzgerald; her great-grandchildren: Collin, Carley, Rosalind, Benjamin, Matilda, Callie, and Samuel; and a sister: Annis & Lucius Bowen of Roanoke, Virginia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Kathy Reese; and a sister, Ruth Johnson.
