NEW BEDFORD — Alberto R. Tavares, age 89 years, died March 22nd at home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Maria Conçeicão Tavares of New Bedford.
Loved father of Joseph Tavares and his wife Kathy of Wareham, Filomena Yuille and her husband Mark of Acushnet, Roy Tavares of Plymouth, Manuela Tavares of New Bedford and Michael Tavares and his husband Derek Fortin of Boston. Loved brother of Dora Pereira. He is also survived by grandchildren Stephanie Tavares Desrosiers, Michelle Hirko, Kristen Tavares, Paige Tavares, and Keith Tavares; great-grandchildren Makenzie Blier, Chloe Desrosiers, Juliette Sousa, and Madison Hirko and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Tavares was the son of the late Maria Agusta de Mederios and Jose Raposo Tavares. He was born in Achadinha, St. Michael, Azores and moved here in 1966 and has lived in this area since. Mr Tavares formerly worked as a machine operator at Crown Wire and as general maintenance at Vanity Fair Factory Outlet store.
Mr. Tavares' funeral will be Tuesday March 29 beginning at 10:00 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford , with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Anthony's of Padua Church at 11:30 A.M. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Monday March 28 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
