KENNEBUNKPORT/LIMERICK– Carolyn Helen (Melideo) Whelpley, age 79, formerly of Limerick, passed away peacefully at her home in Kennebunkport on March 21st 2016, after a short battle with cancer.
Carolyn was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on October 27, 1936, a daughter of the late Pasquale and Evelyn (Miani) Melideo. She was raised in Newton, MA and graduated from Newton High School. She married Peter Walker Whelpley and they raised five children in Natick, MA. She loved sewing and knitting, and as a skilled seamstress, she created wedding gowns, baby clothes, and special Christmas stockings for family and friends. Carolyn loved to share her faith in Jesus Christ and prayed constantly for us all.
She is predeceased by her brother, Vincent Melideo who passed away in 1989, and her daughter, Johanne Carolyn (Whelpley) Steltzer who passed away in 2014.
Carolyn is survived by her loving husband, Peter Walker Whelpley, and her children – Stephen Peter Whelpley, and his wife Patricia of Natick, MA; Cynthia Mary (Whelpley) Macy and her husband Dale of West Boylston, MA; Susan Elizabeth (Whelpley) Fulone and her husband Paul of New Boston, NH; and Douglas James Whelpley and his wife Cynthia of Hookset, NH; brother – George Melideo of Hudson, MA; brother - Joseph Melideo of Natick, MA; and sister- Rosemarie (Melideo) Dinant of Hamilton, MA. Carolyn had fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A burial service will be held on Monday, May 2nd at 11:00 AM at Southern Maine Memorial Veterans Cemetery; 83 Stanley Rd., Sanford, ME 04083.
There will be a gathering of family and friends in Carolyn’s memory immediately following the burial service.
