Walter J. Leoncyk, 77, of Provincetown died peacefully at home on Monday, March 21, 2016. He was the life partner of Brian O. Shea.
Born and raised in Lawrence, he was the son of the late Walter and Marion [DiFalco] Leoncyk. After graduating from Lawrence High School, he moved to Boston. He eventually went to work as an architectural designer for Stone and Webster in Boston, working on many of their local projects.
In the late 1960’s, he and his partner Brian started to spend weekends in Provincetown. In 1979, they moved here permanently and bought the Weathering Heights Restaurant, which they ran for 10 years. Walter also worked for the 150 Market. He then went to work for the Provincetown Manor as a cook and as a driver. He continued to work for Seashore Point for several years.
In addition to spending time with Brian, his partner of 48 years, he enjoyed gardening and working on his coin and stamp collections.
Two sisters, Kathleen Hachey of Florida and Patricia Parks of Fitchburg, as well as several nieces and nephews survive him.
Brian would like to express his gratitude to Maryanne O’Toole, and the staff of Outer Cape Health Service in Provincetown, for the outstanding care given to Walter during the course of his illness.
Calling hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown, on Monday, April 4th from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, followed by a Memorial Celebration of Walter’s Life starting at 6:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to attend.
