Evelyn M. (Thomann) McDermott, A life-long Medford resident, died Tuesday at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness. She was 84.
Born and raised in Medford, Evelyn was the daughter of the late William and the late Beatrice (Hughes) Thomann. Before her retirement, Evelyn worked as a waitress at the Club Car Restaurant in South Station. For many years she served the City of Medford as an elections official.
She was the beloved wife of George “Chick” McDermott. She was the devoted mother of Jean Fleszar and her husband Eric of Reading, the late Paul J. McDermott. She was a loving grandmother to Kirsten Centrella and her husband Rick of Medford, great-grandmother of Hailee Centrella and sister of Elizabeth “Betsy” Hartnett of Foxboro and the late Edith Bifano, Eleanor ”Sissy” Dabrowski, Edna “Toots” Fitzpatrick, Elise ”Bibby” Kelley and William C. Thomann, Jr. Evelyn was an aunt to many nieces and nephews and a dear friend of Eleanor Piontoski.
Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Friday at 10 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family Thursday 4 - 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
