Theresa (Livramento) Almeida, 98, of New Bedford died Sunday March 20, 2016 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Francisco Almeida.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Joseph and Maria (Freitas) Livramento, she lived in New Bedford all of her life. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. Almeida was formerly employed by the City of New Bedford Veterans Services as an office clerk until her retirement.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Cape Verdean-American Veterans Association, the Cape Verdean Women's Club and the Cape Verdean Retirees. She also formerly served as a foster grandparent at the Gomes School.
Survivors include two sons, David D. Reis and his wife Irene, and Paul Almeida; three grandchildren, Doreen Reis, David A. Reis and his wife Renée, and Meredith Phillips Almeida and her husband Jeffrey Rivera; six great-grandchildren, Skylah, Raquel, Tatum, and Piper Reis, and J.J. and Roz Rivera; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Frank Almeida, and the sister of the late Antone Livramento, Joseph Livramento, and Florence Almeida.
Her Funeral will be held on Friday at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by the Liturgy of the Word and Final Commendation at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM.
