NATICK: David Robert Farrell, age 67, a retired Natick Police Officer, died suddenly at his home on Saturday morning, March 19, 2016.
Born in Cambridge, and raised and educated in Natick, he was a son of Rita G. (Sutherland) Farrell of Natick and the late Edward J. Farrell. David was an exceptional football player during his years at Natick High School. He joined the US Army after graduation in 1966 and served three years as an MP during the Vietnam War.
David returned to Natick and joined the Police Department as an officer in 1970. Often referred to as “Big Guy,” David had a great sense of humor and a good heart. A raconteur of sorts, once he got going he was hard to stop. He retired after 31 years on the force.
He was meticulous in maintaining his swimming pool and yard and enjoyed sharing time with his mother with whom he made his home. David was an attentive uncle who would go out of his way for any of his family and friends with no expectation. He was a huge Boston sports fan and was forever following horse racing.
He is survived by his mother, Rita; a sister, Barbara A. Parsons and her husband Richard of Norwood; a brother, William C. Farrell of Norwood; his nieces and nephew, Caroline A. Parsons, Jennifer R. Parsons, Brett E. Farrell, and Molly A. Farrell; his son and daughter, Timothy and Denise; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
His funeral will be from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Wednesday, March 23rd at 11:00AM with a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Zepherin’s Church, 99 Main Street, Wayland, at 12:00PM. Burial with military honors will follow in Saint Zepherin’s Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, 5 – 8PM. Donations may be made in David’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
