John S. Gillis, of Wareham and a former longtime resident of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly on March 10, 2016. He was 48 years of age. Born in Boston he was the cherished son of Muriel A. Gillis and her husband Richard Tibbetts of Lady Lakes, FL, and the late John M. Gillis.
John was raised in Wilmington and attended Wilmington Schools. He graduated from Shawsheen Valley Technical High School in 1986 where studied plumbing. He worked for many years as a talented licensed plumber. As a young boy he enjoyed fishing, BMX, playing youth hockey in Wilmington and was an avid sports fan throughout his life.
In addition to his mother, John is survived by his children, John M. and his wife Alyssa of West Springfield, Patrick and Daniel of Woburn. He was the grandfather of John P... Cherished brother of Diane Coots and her husband Tom of Revere and uncle to their children, Rebecca, Victoria and Andrew.
Family and friends were respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Dorothy Church, Wilmington, Thursday, March 17th, at 1 p.m. Services conclude with burial at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Arrangements entrusted to the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home of Wilmington.
