Carter, L. Daniel, of Peabody, age 87. March 17, 2016. US Army Veteran. Married to Rita Harte until her passing, they raised their family in Millis. Dan lived life richly and with integrity. Family and friends were central. Dan was a graduate of Jamaica Plain High, UMass,& BU Graduate School of Social Work. He was a Professor Emeritus of Boston University School of Social Work. He loved reading, thoughtful discussion, and politics. He traveled extensively. Involvement in sports and outdoor activities were an integral part of his life. He was fulfilled by the beauty of nature. He had an unshakable positive outlook. Carpe Diem. He will be greatly missed and admired by his loving family including: His partner Mary Bennett, children: David Carter of Millis, Elaine Willey of Franklin, Bruce Carter & wife Pilar Ortiz of Florida, Stacia Dennis & husband Charles of Lakeville, his grandsons Brett, Marc, & Craig Willey, Joshua & Jonathan Carter, Morgan & Carter Dennis, and the children and grandchildren of Mary Bennett.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, March 24, from 4-8pm at the P.E. Murray-F.J.Higgins, George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 2000 Centre St. West Roxbury. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Dan’s life Friday March 25 at 12:30pm at Waterford’s Restaurant, 2 Bridge Street, Dedham. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dan’s memory may be made in to: BU School of Social Work Deans Fund or the Appalachian Mountain Club.
