Worcester-Robert J. Varney, 79, passed away Friday, March 18th at UMass Memorial Healthcare-Memorial Campus surrounded by his family.
Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Ruth A. (Gabis) Varney in 2014. He leaves seven children, Marion A. Russell of Worcester, Darlene A. Varney-Carlson of Delray Beach, FL, Cynthia A. Tavakolnia of Spencer, Robert A. Varney of Worcester, Wayde A. Varney of E. Brookfield, Keith A. Varney of New Hampshire and Jessica A. Volpe of Leominster. Robert was a loving and devoted grandfather of 13 and great grandfather of 11. He truly cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by five brothers and sisters. He also leaves his best friend and dog, Teddy.
Robert was born in Worcester the son of Archie and Angelina (Migneault) Varney Boneski. He worked as a truck driver for many years for The Teamsters Local 170. He thoroughly enjoyed fishing and taking trips to St. Joseph’s Abbey.
Robert’s visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, March 22nd from 4:00 until 7:00 pm at CALLAHAN~FAY~CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St. His Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 23rd at 10:00 am at St. Peter’s Church, 929 Main St. Entombment will be in St. John’s Mausoleum.
