TEWKSBURY - Mrs. Norma Grace (Maxfield) Bowring, age 96, a resident of Tewksbury since 1954, died peacefully in the care of her family and staff at the Forestview Manor Nursing Care Center, in Meredith, NH, on Saturday, March 19. She was the wife of the late G. Elbert Bowring, who died in 1982, and after her remarriage, the late Chester W. Lowrey, who died in 2014.
She was born in Lowell, a daughter of the late Rufus A. and Louise Bertha (Duprey) Maxfield, and was raised in Lowell. She graduated from Lowell High School, and the Bradshaw Business College. She worked at GTE-Sylvania in Woburn for twenty-seven years as a Technical Librarian, and later as an Executive Secretary in Needham. Norma was a proud past member of the Special Libraries Association, and the 128 Librarians Group. She was a former member of the Lowell Elks, where she enjoyed Bingo on Wednesday evenings for many years.
In her retirement years, she enjoyed travel throughout the U.S. and Canada, and was a frequent Holland America “Grand Mariner” Traveler, having logged over one thousand days at sea. She had truly “seen the world” with those she cherished on her cruise ship itineraries.
She is survived by her sister, Jewell Hurley, formerly of Dracut; and many loving children by birth and marriage; Jacqueline Bowring and Robin Maxfield of Alton, NH, Penny Lowrey of Nashua, NH, Martha Jones of Charlestown, SC, Peter Lowrey of Bolton, CT, Lawrence Lowrey of Dracut, MA, Rhona Plamondon of Epping, NH, Norma Levasseur of Lowell, MA, Joanne McKenny of Lawrence, MA, Rita Bryand of Dracut,MA; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Norma was predeceased by her daughter, Joan Louise Bowring; siblings, Arthur Maxfield, Nashua, NH, Harold Maxfield, Syracuse, NY, Roger Maxfield, Hampton, NH, Barbara Christiansen, Nashua, NH, Gloria Rudnikoff, San Jose, CA, and Atwood Maxfield, AZ.
Visting hours Wednesday, Mar. 23, from 3:00 until 6:00 in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950.
