CHICOPEE – Armand J. “Fabe” Rochon, 85, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, March 17, 2016. He passed into Eternal Life at Willimansett Center East in Chicopee surrounded by the care and comfort of his family. He was born in Troy, Vermont on March 20, 1930, a son of the late Emile J. and Eva (Menard) Rochon. He was raised in Troy, Vermont and moved to Chicopee around 1953. Following in the footsteps of his three brothers, Gregoire, Clement and Lucien who served in the United States Army, he served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his military service, he moved to Chicopee and was employed for 34 years at the former A. G. Spalding Company in Willimansett where he retired in 1994 as an Industrial Engineer. During his younger years, Fabe played and sang in the Far East Westerners Band. They performed in USO shows and were also on the Armed Forces Network in the Philippines. He was a member of the Fairview American Legion Post 438 in Chicopee. He was a communicant at the former Saint Mary of the Assumption Church in Chicopee where he volunteered at the church bingo. He also assisted at the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine classes and served for many years as their official Santa Claus. Following the closing of his parish, he became a parishioner at Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Chicopee. He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor June (Dubray) Rochon who was Called Home on December 1, 2014. They were married on September 26, 1953 at Saint John the Apostle Church in Johnson, Vermont and were blessed with over 61 years of happiness together. He leaves his six children, Girard A. Rochon and his wife, Martha “Marty”, of Cedarville, OH, Karen A. Tesny and her partner, Connie Troester, of Weaverville, NC, Mary T. Rochon of Amherst, Paul A. Rochon of Fairfield, CA, Annette M. Rochon of Chicopee and Michael J. Rochon of Springfield; his grandson, Jonathan Tesny and his wife, July, of Warner Robins, GA; his great-grandson, Julian Tesny; his brother, Gregoire Rochon of Hadley; his two brothers-in-law, Everett Dubray and James Dubray, both of Johnson, VT; his sister-in-law, Janet Sheltra and her husband, Bernard, of Johnson, VT; and his many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Rochon and Dubray families. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his three brothers, Edgar, Clement and Lucien Rochon; and his four sisters, Marie Madeline Rochon, Loretta Dubray, Lucille West and Alice Talbot. His funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, March 23, 2016 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 7:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 56 Saint Anthony Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. His Committal Service with United States Air Force Military Honors will follow the Mass at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
