Elizabeth A. Howell, a Wilmington resident for most of her life, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington following a short illness. She was 84 years of age. Elizabeth was the beloved wife of the late Paul J. Howell. Born in Cambridge, she was one of six daughters of the late John and Rose (McGowan) McSheffrey.
Elizabeth attended Wilmington schools and was a graduate of Wilmington High School. Mostly devoted to her loving family, nothing gave her more joy than being together with her children and especially her grandchildren whom she was so proud of. Over the years Elizabeth enjoyed traveling spending time with her family camping, fishing and boating. She also enjoyed attending Bingo at the Wilmington Senior Center.
Elizabeth was the devoted mother of Paul J. Howell Jr. and his wife Louise, Gregory Howell and his wife Gerry, all of Ashby, the late Bettyann Howell Carroll and Diane Merrill. She was the loving grandmother of twelve grandchildren and the late Francis X. Carroll III. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren. Sister of Phyllis Edgerly and is sadly predeceased by four sisters.
Funeral Services will be held from the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 374 Main St., Wilmington, Monday, March 21st, at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Dorothy Church, Main St., Wilmington, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Sunday from 3 thru 7 p.m. Interment services will be private. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Francis X. Carroll, III Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Rollstone Bank & Trust, 225 Main St., Townsend, MA 01469.
