George E. Reeder, a 68 year Charlestown resident and formerly of Augusta, Georgia, entered into eternal life in his home in Charlestown on Thursday, March 17, 2016 following a brief illness. He was 88 years old.
George was born in Augusta, Georgia on November 17, 1927, a son of the late Tessier A. Reeder and Mary F. (Campbell) Reeder. He grew up in Augusta where he attended grammar school and graduated from high school. George enlisted into the United States Navy on August 19, 1952 and served his country with pride and courage during the Korean Conflict. George was honorably discharged on July 18, 1959 with the rank of SKG3. Following his military service, George worked as a Government Firefighter for over 20 years at the Watertown Arsenal in Watertown. He is the past President and Board Member of the Charles-Newtowne Association. George loved to fish, and to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
George is the beloved husband of 68 years to Irene "Rene" (McGonagle) Reeder. He is the devoted father of George E. Reeder Jr., David Reeder, Irene Reeder, Mary Dacey, Richard Reeder and his wife Lisa, and the late John Reeder, and Rhonda Reeder. He is the loving "Pop Pop" to 9 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend George's Funeral on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 10 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 11 A.M. His burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. His visiting hours will be on Monday, March 21, 2016 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
