Obituary

TAUNTON – Francis J. Sousa, 87, died at his Taunton home, surrounded by his loving family on March 16, 2016. He was the husband of Anna (Zappulla) Sousa, to whom he had been married for sixty-three years.
He was 87.
Born in Dighton, he was the son of the late John E. and Nora (Rush) Sousa.
He served with the US Navy in WW II, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer, 3rd Class.
He was employed for Sousa Brothers in the early fifties and sixties, and also worked for Union Local #4 Operating Engineers for 40 years, retiring in 2001.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church, he was a member of the Italian Social Club, Taunton Elks Lodge 150, the Portuguese American Civic Club, the American Legion and VFW.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, Francis J. Sousa, Jr. and his wife, Ruth of Taunton and John E. Sousa; a daughter, Cheryl Sousa Burke of Raynham; eight grandchildren, Kara and Kelsy Sousa, both of Taunton, Lindsey and Renee Burke, both of Raynham, Brittany Sousa of Dorchester, Paige and Ariana Sousa both of Assonet, and Christina Burke of CA; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late Paul L. Sousa.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Tuesday, March 22nd at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Mary’s Church at 9 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday, March 21st from 4 to 7 p.m.
