Obituary

Erling Einar Frank "Andy" Andersen, 87, of Groton passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Apple Rehab In Mystic. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Angelina (Laurinaityte) Andersen, who died in August of 2000.

Erling was born on October 28, 1928, in Copenhagen, Denmark. He grew up in Copenhagen and lived through the German Occupation of Denmark during World War II. After the war he traveled the world with the Danish Merchant Marines as a Radiographer. He later emigrated from Denmark to Boston, MA, in 1956, ultimately becoming a U.S. citizen. He lived and worked in Massachusetts for nine years before settling down in Groton.

Andy, as he was known to his friends, worked at Electric Boat prior to starting his own business, Anders Electronics, which he operated until his retirement. Before the internet, he was an avid Ham Radio Operator and developed lifelong friendships with other operators both in the U.S. and overseas. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, his companion and "scrabble buddy" Marcia, and going to the dog park with Daisy, his dog. His background in electronics translated into an interest in staying apprised of the latest technology and gadgets, as well as Skyping with long-distance friends and family. He enjoyed reading a wide variety of subjects and liked engaging in hearty discussions about everything from his latest philosophical readings to current events.

He is survived by his daughter Jeanette Zebrowski and her husband Jeffery, his son Peter Andersen and his wife Mary, as well as two grandchildren, Jacqueline and Nicole Zebrowski. He is also survived by two sisters, Lise Gerven and Anette Jacobsen, and a brother Keld Jacobsen, all of Denmark, as well as nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Apple Rehab for the care and compassion they provided to Erling during his stay.

As per his wishes, there will be no calling hours and services will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
