Jimmy R. Harper, 73, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla.
Funeral services will be held 10 AM, Friday, March 18, 2016, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla, with Brother Joey Veal officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery in Irwin County. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, from 6 to 8, at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Harper was born November 6, 1942, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Mose M. and Lannie Kelly Harper. He lived in the community all of his life and formerly worked for Pioneer Housing and Flintstone Industries in Ocilla. Mr. Harper was a carpenter and farmer and he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was of the Holiness Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years: Sandra Harper of Ocilla; children: Yvonne & Doug Griffin of Ocilla and Troy & Cecilia Harper of Ocilla; grandchildren: Sheena Griffin Downey & Ahren, Marcus Griffin & Lauren, Kim Griffin, Amanda Bridge & Spencer, Steven Harper & Lori, Kaylynn Oxendine and Allexis Callaway; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother: Raymond Harper of Columbus. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters: Shirley McCook, Ada Young and Dianne Osborne and brothers: Mose William Harper and Vernon Harper.
