Omer A. Chagnon, 87

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Omer A. Chagnon, age 87,of Mansfield, passed away with his adoring family, on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, on Cape Cod. He was the beloved husband of the late Marie C. (Amalfitano) Chagnon, to whom he was wed for 62 years at the time of her passing on October 11, 2015.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he was a loving son of the late Louie and Blanche Porter. He grew up in Providence RI and was a graduate of Everett Vocational High School and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.
Omer was a Quality Control Inspector for Bird Johnson, Raytheon and ultimately retired from Electronic Fasteners. After retiring, Omer enjoyed volunteering at Mansfield High School.
His family and his role as a father and friend were the most important things to him and this is where he drew his strength and left his legacy. Being with his family was what Omer enjoyed most of all.
Omer had made his home in Mansfield for the past 43 years and he was a devout catholic and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield. He was a longtime member of the Mansfield Lodge of Elks and he just adored animals and was an avid New England sports fan.
He is survived by his loving and devoted daughters Luanne Chagnon-Erb and her husband Jimmy of Mansfield and Michele Chagnon-Holbrook and her husband Rick of East Sandwich. He is also survived by his cherished niece Vanessa Comley and nephew John Vanderbrook.
His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Saturday, March 19th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 18th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
