Obituary

Johnnie Cox, Jr., 65, of Milford, formerly of Roxbury, died Friday, March 11, 2016 in his home.

Born in Boston, MA on August 1, 1950, he was the son of the late Florence (Jackson) and Johnnie Cox, Sr. Johnnie was raised in Boston and attended Boston Public Schools.
Johnnie had lived in the Roxbury area before moving to Milford 22 years ago.

He had worked for the MBTA and then for the Town of Milford School System, finishing his career driving a school bus for children with special needs, many of whom remained in contact with him after he retired.

Johnnie loved music, and especially enjoyed gospel and R & B. He was often heard singing by neighbors and those around him wherever he was. He joined the Medway Village Church in Medway in 2010 and shared his gift as a member of the worship team and adult choir.

Johnnie was patient, kind and always kept an open heart and open door, lending a helping hand to those in need. He loved to cook and many holidays were celebrated at his kitchen table or in his backyard. He will be fondly remembered by his large network of friends and acquaintances for his joyful manner and humor, always leaving you smiling.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters Ashaya and Alandra Cox; His brothers Dana and Michael cox and his sister Florence "Fluffy" ; Nieces Nikaya Cox and Channel Simmons and nephew Michael “Man” Cox; his cousin Janet Johnson-Smith who he shared a special bond with and his close friends Alicia Moore, Bruce D`Ambra and Michelle Doherty, whose children Brianna and Jarrod loved and will miss their “Uncle Johnnie”. He will also be missed by many more nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Marilyn and Beverly.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Friday, March 18 at 1:00pm in the Medway Village Church, 170 Village Street, Medway

Burial will be held at a later date.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00-8:00pm in the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, 3 barber Street, Medway, MA

In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to help pay for Johnnie`s final expenses.

You can drop it in the collection plate on Sunday, put it in the Deacons’ collection box by side entry door to the sanctuary or mail it to the Medway Village Church, 170 Village St., Medway, MA 02053.

Any funds raised beyond the need will be donated to the Special Hockey league which Johnnie supported for years.
