Andrew William Young, formerly of Chester NH, passed away in Lompoc, California on February 26, 2016 after a period of failing health. He was born on April 3, 1963 in Manchester, NH, the youngest child of the late William J. and Janice (Dalton) Young of Chester. Andrew graduated from Pinkerton Academy in 1981. He continued his education at the University of New Hampshire, graduating in 1985 with a degree in social work. He also had a Master’s Degree in social work from Adelphi University, Garden City, New York, and a Ph.D. in education from Warnborough University in the United Kingdom. He enjoyed travel and worked as a teacher and social worker in many places including Texas, Alaska and Germany. He also enjoyed tracing the family genealogy and was a Mayflower descendent. Andrew joined the Air Force in response to 9/11 and served as a Captain from 2002 to 2006, including a tour in Iraq, and in the USAF Reserves until 2008.
He leaves behind a son Chris Young of Oklahoma; sister Elaine and her husband Tarrell Towle of Chester; brother Thomas of Clearwater, Florida; and sister Jane and her husband Robert Grimm of Chester. He also leaves behind nieces Kelsey Towle Bayreuther, Tristin Young Redmond, and Elizabeth Grimm; nephews James Towle, Jackson Grimm and Travis Grimm; several great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 16th at 11:00am in the Fellowship Bible Church, Rod & Gun Club Rd., Chester. A luncheon for family and friends was held in the Church following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chester Academy, 22 Murphy Dr., Chester, NH 03036. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is assisting the family with arrangements.
