Obituary

Frederick Eldridge, 79, of Mattapoisett died May 16, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.

He was the husband of Myrtle F. (Johnson) Eldridge, and son of the late Enos E. and Esther (Caswell) Eldridge.

Mr. Eldridge was born in Mattapoisett and had lived in Mattapoisett all of his life.

He was formerly employed by the Town of Mattapoisett Water Department for many years until his retirement.

Mr. Eldridge served in the U.S. Army during World War II with Battery A of the 660th Field Artillery Battalion, participating in the battles of the Rhineland and Central Europe. He was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign ribbon, the American Theater Campaign ribbon, the Good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory medal.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Benjamin D. Cushing Post 2425 in Marion and a former member of the Machacum Club.

Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, David Eldridge, and his wife Ann, of Rochester and Steven Eldridge, and his wife Alice, of New Bedford; a brother, Enos Everett Eldridge, Jr. of Mattapoisett; 2 grandchildren, Michael Eldridge and Sarah Eldridge, both of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the father of the late Roy Eldridge.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Route 6) Mattapoisett, Monday, May 20th at 1 PM.

Visiting hours Sunday, May 19th from 4-7 PM.

Interment Cushing Cemetery.
