Mrs. Alice (Cruz) Fleury, of Taunton, died Friday, March 11 in Morton Hospital following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph A.N. Fleury. She was born 96 years ago in Taunton, the daughter of the late Jeronimo and Maria (Gonsalves) Cruz. Alice was educated in Taunton, having graduated from Taunton High School, and had been a lifelong city resident. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed as an attendant at Taunton State Hospital for several years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and watching Jeopardy. She read two to three newspapers each day to keep up with current events. She loved animals, and over the years had dogs, cats, birds and chickens.
She leaves: 2 daughters: Ruth Burke of Taunton, and Barbara Gagne and her husband, Dennis of Taunton; 1 brother: Bartholomew Cruz and his wife, Theresa of Taunton; 1 sister: Cindy Babiczuk and her husband, Freddie of Taunton; 5 grandchildren: Paul Morin and his wife, Beth, Tracy Askew and her husband, Al, Keith Morin, Jonathan Gagne and his wife, Karen, and Katherine Neville and her husband, Eric; 10 great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Alice was also the sister of the late Jack, Antonio, and Francisco Cruz, Beatrice Thayer, Linda Posca, Ann Godlewski, and Edna Feeney.
A Funeral Service will be conducted at The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Wednesday, March 16 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.
