Obituary

Barry David Chevalier, Jr, a resident of Provincetown and beloved life partner of Tim Hazel, died unexpectedly on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was 47.

Born on January 27, 1969 and educated in Lowell, he was the son of the late Donna (Evicci) Pepin and Barry D. Chevalier of Dracut.

Barry moved to Provincetown in 2006. An eclectic person, Barry’s interests were as wide ranging and diverse as he was. He worked as a hairdresser, landscaper, and waiter/host at Tiny’s restaurant, as well as a host at Pepe’s Wharf, both in Provincetown. When life in Provincetown quieted down for the winter, he and Tim would return to Peaks Island in Maine until the spring. He loved nature and the outdoors, his dogs, and shared much laughter with his close group of friends.

Whether it was at the beach or in the woods, Barry was at his best outside. His love of plants and flowers was a passion. He was a Wiccan and practiced the religion of Wicca. Barry also took pleasure in painting, and became an accomplished artist. He studied herbalism and came to be an herbalist, making many natural salves for his friends and relatives. An outgoing personality, Barry easily made friends wherever his adventures took him. He and his mother Donna loved the movie Practical Magic. They would watch it whenever they could.

Surviving him besides his partner and father, are his stepmother, Patricia Chevalier of Dracut, and stepfather Edward Pepin of Lowell, his grandparents, Rita Evicci, Peachy and Gerome Chevalier all of Tyngsboro; brothers and sisters and their spouses, Roger and Sherry Pepin of Salem, NH, Tammy and James Dauteuil of Lowell, Michael and Kristen Pepin of Dracut, Kenneth and Malynda Pepin of Lowell, Kelly Linehan of Dracut; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He also leaves his beloved dog Sophie.

Tim wishes to thank all of his friends for their generous outpouring of support during this most difficult time. A celebration of Barry’s life will take place Sunday, May 1, at a time and place to be announced.

If desired, donations in Barry’s name may be made to the Carrie A. Seaman Animal Shelter, PO Box 1374, Provincetown, MA 02657.
