Obituary

Rosswell Henry Anderson Jr., a life-long resident of Medford, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, March 11, 2016, in the Massachusetts General Hospital. He was 79.

Born in Medford, he was the son of the late Rosswell H. and Catherine (Fennelly) Anderson.

After graduating from Medford High School, with the class of 1955, Rosswell joined the United States Army. After his honorable discharge, Rosswell and his wife Elaine married in 1957. The two were wed in St. Clement Parish of Medford. Rosswell and Elaine raised their family in Medford with the cornerstone of love and devotion.

Rosswell was a Dispatcher at Faulkner Brothers Oil & Heating, where he proudly worked for over fifty years. In his spare time, Rosswell enjoyed gardening and he loved being with his family and friends. Every Sunday he had doughnuts from Lyndell’s in Somerville, and spent the rest of the day with family. Rosswell enjoyed traveling, especially to Lake Winnipesauke in New Hampshire. He also enjoyed spending Sunday afternoons sitting by his pool with family and friends. Rosswell loved teaching all of his twelve grandchildren to swim. Summer was his favorite season. He was also a member of the Odd Couples Bowling League in Ball Square and the Sons of Italy in Somerville. Rosswell will be remembered for his love of life and jokester personality, that all enjoyed.

Rosswell was the beloved husband of Elaine (DiFiore) Anderson, with whom he shared 59 loving years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Denise Tobin and her husband Brian of Medford, the late Rosswell H. Anderson III and his wife Mary of Somerville, Michelle Russell and her husband Edward of Groveland, Michael Anderson and his wife Kathleen of Framingham. The loving grandfather of Melissa, Brian, Michael, Janine, Derek, Kyle, Evan, Noelle, Katie-Lynne, Michael, Della and Lucas. He was the dear brother of Brenda Bernard and her husband Joseph of Gilford, NH and the late George Anderson and his wife Judith. Rosswell was cherished cousin of Elmer King and his wife Barbara of Medford. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, on Tuesday at 10:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant Street, Malden, at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 through 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Rosswell’s name to the Vascular Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, 55 Fruit St., #800, Boston, MA 02114.
