Robert P. "Rocket" Roy, 67, of Dartmouth passed away early Tuesday morning, March 8, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospital surrounded by his loving wife and family members.
Born in New Bedford, the eldest son of Claire E. (LeComte) Roy and the late G. Albert Roy, he resided in Dartmouth for over 30 years. He attended New Bedford Vocational High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he served a two year tour in Vietnam aboard the U.S.S. Richard E. Kraus.
Bob was a thirty-year employee of the U.S. Postal Service in New Bedford and Dartmouth.
He loved pigeon racing and was a member of the WCD Pigeon Club and the Fall River Racing Pigeon Club, among others. He was extremely passionate about animals and their welfare, especially his four cats and numerous pigeons.
Bob is survived by his wife, Ann K. Bobola; his mother, Claire E. Roy of Dartmouth; his son, Alex of Florida; two brothers, Rev. Richard M. Roy, Pastor of St. Julie Billiart Church in Dartmouth and Raymond P. Roy of Palm Springs, CA; three sisters, Diane Charbonneau and Elizabeth LeDuc, both of Dartmouth, and Jacqueline M. Roy of Taunton; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Ron and Louise of Pittsfield, Bob and Nancy of Fairhaven, Ron and Vi of Lakeville, Rick and Paula of Dartmouth, and Jim and Chris of Acushnet; twelve nieces and nephews, one of whom was his Godchild, Stephanie Charbonneau; and five great-nieces and great-nephews.
Bob will be missed by his family and many close friends.
At his request, there will be no calling hours. His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday April 2, 2016 at 11 AM at St. Julie Billiart Church in Dartmouth.
