Obituary

Carolyn Brannen Bischel, 89, a long-time resident of Cordele passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Medical Center Navicent Health in Macon following a short illness. A family memorial service will be held in Carol’s home with her nephew, Rev. Bryan Cobb officiating. Interment will be held in Andersonville Memorial Cemetery.

She was born January 22, 1927 in Statesboro and attended school there, beginning at age five, and ultimately graduated from Georgia Southern University (known then as Georgia Teacher’s College).

Carol began her business career as a laboratory technician with the State of Florida. Later, she made a career change to a physician’s assistant in a private practice, where she worked until her retirement in 1982.

After retirement, she, with her family, moved to Lake Blackshear in Cordele, where she enjoyed her retirement years boating, fishing, gardening and traveling.

She taught her Sunday school class at the First United Methodist Church in Warwick for over 20 years and served as the church treasurer, along with many other positions in the church.

Carol enjoyed good food, good friends and family. She had a wonderful sense of humor. We will miss her, but we know she is rejoicing in God’s presence.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Lynn Bishel Beck and her son-in-law, Allen Beck; three grandchildren, Frank Beck, Doug Beck and Valerie Beck Killough; her sister, Joy Brannen Cobb of Cordele; her brother, Orren L. Brannen of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Edward H. Bischel; her son, Patrick E. Bischel; her parents, Orren Lester Brannen and Ruby Parrish Brannen; and her sister, Martha Dean Brannen Beacham.

The family requests that memorial gifts or contributions be made to a charity or cause that provides help or service to others.
