Robert “Pete” Cummings, age 85, passed away in Norton surrounded by family on Tuesday, March 8, 2016. He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth “Betty” Gurney and the devoted father of Valerie Cummings and her husband Timothy Andrews of Concord, MA and Lance Cummings and his wife Barbara of Rehoboth, MA.
He was the much-loved grandfather of Brett Andrews of Chicago, IL; Brian Cummings of Bristol, RI; Tyler Andrews of Arlington, VA and Kevin Cummings of Rehoboth, MA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and his devoted caregiver Mary Bassick.
Pete was born in North Dighton, MA, the son of the late Wilford and Jennie Cummings. He attended the University of Rhode Island, served in the US Coast Guard and worked for New England Telephone, retiring in 1989, after 39 years with the company.
Retiring to Canaan, NH he was a board member of the Canaan Historical Society, a member of the VFW, Cardigan Mountain Snowmobile Club, Canaan Crusaders and was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Pete also enjoyed vegetable gardening, fishing and hunting.
A memorial service and internment will be held in Canaan, NH at the convenience of the family.
