Hudson, MA
Paul C. Ryan, 66, of Hudson, died unexpectedly on Monday, March 7th at his home. He leaves his loving wife of 28 years, Linda J. (Smith) Ryan.
Paul was born in Somerville, son of the late Anthony and Mary (Guidi) Ryan. He was raised in Somerville and later Medford where he attended local schools and was a 1967 graduate of St. Mary of the Annunciation High School. He later attended Massachusetts College of Art and received a Bachelor’s of Fine Art’s Degree in Graphics Designs. Paul was a self-employed cartoonist and through his artistry and ability to tell a great story he created many wonderful comic books for DC and Marvel Comics through the years. He was an artist extraordinaire and worked on the Adventures of Spiderman, Superman, The Fantastic Four, The Avengers and many others and his latest adventure project “The Phantom”. He was a 2nd Lieutenant of the Massachusetts National Guard; member of GOAL (Gun Owners Action League) and member of the NRA (National Rifle Association) and a member of the Harvard Rod & Gun Club, a member of SASS.
Besides his love of storytelling through his comic books, his real true passion for being a cowboy, Paul cherished spending time with his family and was fondly referred to as “Uncle Paul”. His passion in life was his wife Linda and treasured the times they shared throughout their 28 years together in marriage. His unique and beloved personality will be cherished by all who knew and loved him, including his four feline friends whom he loved and cared for.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his two children, Jason M. Ryan of Wrentham and Heather E. Lindner and husband Scott of New York. He is also survived by his two sisters, Jane Rafferty and her husband Jim of Georgia, Mary Butler of New Hampshire; his brother, Chris Healy and his wife Barbara of Quincy; his two grandchildren; his father and mother in-law, Ralph and Phyllis Smith of Ayer, along with his many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and of course all his wonderful cartoon characters.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 11th at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Isidore Church, 429 Great Road, Stow, MA. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Thursday, March 10th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-¬Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749 (www.tighehamilton.com).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Paul may be made to either: Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society, 63 Elm Street, Salisbury, MA 01952, or Cummings Veterinary Fund at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, Office of Development, Administration Building, 200 Westboro Road, North Grafton, MA 01536.
