Obituary

Robert E. “Red” Girting, 83, of Derry, NH and formerly Windham, NH passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the Parkland Medical Center in Derry. He was born on January 10, 1933 in Monaca, PA, a son of the late Harry and Ruth (Edmond) Girting. Mr. Girting proudly served his country in the US Air Force, retiring after 21 years of service as a Master Sergeant. Following in his father’s footsteps, Robert was involved in many roles in the fire-fighting industry as a Third Generation Fire Fighter and EMT. Upon his retirement at the age of 80, he loved traveling with his wife any chance he could. Family was the most important thing to Red.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Janet (Cousins) Girting, one son, Nicholas Wayne Girting and his wife Lisa, two daughters, Roberta Lynn “Bobbie” Gaudette and her husband Donald and Diane Marie Fleming and her husband Michael, five grandchildren, Lee, Meredith, Caroline, Samantha and Catherine. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by one sibling and one granddaughter.
Calling hours were held on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 4 – 7pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry. Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 10th at 10:00am in the funeral home with burial that followed in the Cemetery on the Plain, Windham.
