Obituary

WEBSTER –James E. “Jim” Burns, Sr., 73, died Saturday, February 27 at home after a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 52 years, Barbara A. (Denham) Burns; 2 sons, James E. Burns, Jr. and his wife Lynn, and Joseph D. Burns and his wife Kimberly; a daughter, Alberta VanDyke, all of Webster; a brother, Dennis Burns and his wife Janice of Worcester; 2 sisters, Star Decelles of Sterling and Elaine Guerin and her husband David of Oxford; 9 grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his step-mother Lillian Burns, by his aunt Mary Burns who helped raise him and was like a mother to him, and by 2 brothers, Frederick Burns, Jr. and Donald Burns.
He was born in Worcester, a son of Frederick Burns, Sr. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School.
Mr. Burns worked as a machinist and then as a foreman for Commonwealth Spring Company in Worcester for 46 years before retiring in 2008. He belonged to the Booster Athletic Club in Webster. He worked 6 days a week most of his life but would always come home and say “Let’s do something” which might have been fishing, hunting, dirt bike riding or taking a road trip to nowhere.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, March 12, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM in the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., Webster.
