Gracie Odell Avant Farmer, age 103, died Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Oxford Rehab in Oxford, MS. She was born July 13, 1912 in Water Valley, MS to the late Joe S. and Sallie C. Wiltshire Avant. Odell was a member of First Baptist Church of Water Valley and the Order of the Eastern Star. During WWII she worked at a munitions factory where she made gun shells and bombs and after the war she worked at Ingalls Memorial Hospital. Odell enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with her family and friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2016 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Bro. Ken Salley officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley.
Odell is survived by her son, Robert (Dora) Farmer of Water Valley, MS; thirteen grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 78 years, Woodrow Wilson Farmer; her daughter, Verdie Ruth Farmer Schaefer; her son, Alvie Odell Farmer; and three deceased grandchildren.
