TEWKSBURY - Mrs. Alice Elizabeth (Joyce) Hoell, age 91, died peacefully surrounded by her family, on Friday morning, March 4, at the Inn at Fairview in Hudson, NH, where she had been in residence for the past seventeen months. She was the beloved wife of the late Edmund E. Hoell, who died in 1987.
She was born in Cambridge, one of six children of the late Arthur and Mary Agnes (Daley) Joyce, was raised in Cambridge, and was an alumna of Cambridge Latin High School.
She and Ed moved to Tewksbury in 1955 to raise their family of six.
Alice was an active member of St. William’s Parish community, and a member of the St. William’s Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality. In her retirement she volunteered at Tewksbury Hospital, assisting patients to and from Sunday Mass.
She retired from the Oblate Fathers’ Infirmary as a secretary.
She leaves her children, Geraldine “Gerry” Gillette of Windham, NH, Edmund E. “Ed” Hoell Jr and his wife Carole Center of Portland, ME, Bob Hoell of Tewksbury, Brian Hoell and his wife Donna Cabibbo of Millis, Trish A. Petron and her husband Steve of Windham, NH, Kathy Dillon and her husband Craig of Westford; eleven grandchildren, Michael, Mark, and Kara Gillette; Rebecca, Craig and Keith Hoell; Ben Petron; Sam, Tyler, Alie, and Grace Dillon; a brother Robert Joyce and his wife Bernice of FL; many dear friends, especially Kay Purtell; and was predeceased by her infant daughter Mary Alice; brothers Arthur Jr., Harold, and Warren Joyce; and sister, Mildred Lally.
Visiting hours Sunday from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. There will be no procession to the church on Monday, please meet at church. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 a.m. in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury.
