Irene C. New, 96, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Friday, June 24, 2005 at Beverly Health Care in Tifton, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 5 PM, Sunday, June 26, 2005 at the Ocilla Church Of God, with Rev. Clayton Dowd, Rev. Dewain Joiner and her granddaughter, Rev. Kimberly Keen officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 Saturday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. New was born April 18, 1909, in Lithonia, Georgia, to the late Allen and Susie Haney Campbell. She lived in Ocilla for the past twenty-five years, having lived most of her life in Fitzgerald. Mrs. New was a Minister’s wife and a former employee of Fitzgerald Mills. She was a member of the Ocilla Church Of God and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.
Mrs. New is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and H.D. Luke of Ocilla; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Shirley New of Fernandina Beach, FL; ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Roy Campbell of Lithonia and Louis Campbell of Stone Mountain; sisters, Lillie Attaway of Tennessee and Louise Stephens of Conyers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. John William New, Sr., two sons, two daughters, two brothers and one sister.
