Obituary

FAIRHAVEN — Mabel C. (Griffiths) Filipek, age 94 of Fairhaven, died March 2, 2016 at home after a period of declining health.

Daughter of the late Charles R. and May (Wrigley) Griffiths, she was born in New Bedford and was a graduate of N.B. High School and attended Kinyon-Campbell Business School. Mabel then was employed at Continental Screw Co., where she met her future husband, Joseph E. Filipek. They were married in 1946 and moved to Fairhaven in 1952.

Mabel worked at Park Motors before being employed at Fairhaven Savings Bank for nearly twenty years, retiring in 1982. It was at that time Mabel became treasurer and clerk of Riverside Cemetery Corpora­tion serving for nearly sixteen years.

She was a long time faithful member of the First Congregational Church in Fairhaven where she was a Sunday School teacher, member of Women's Fellow­ship, a major contributor to the holiday fair and enjoyed working at the Heavenly Treasurers Thrift Shop. For seventy five years she was a member of the Rainbow Majority Club.

Mabel was a talented seamstress enjoying hours of sewing, stitching, and quilting. She also enjoyed baking, watching her grandchildren grow, and following the Red Sox. Mabel will be remembered for her bright smile and kind and caring nature, always a lady loving time with her family and friends.

She is survived by two daughters-Carole Wojcik and her husband John of Norwell and Constance Chandler and her husband Stephen of Bridgewater, two granddaughters Allison Conners and her husband Christopher of Middleboro and Leslie Lee and her husband Matthew of Taunton, great-grand­children Calleigh Connors and'Chandler Lee and was predeceased by her brother Arnold R. Griffiths and her husband Joseph.

Her family would like to extend a special thanks to the entire staff of Southcoast Cancer Center and Southcoast Palliative Hospice VNA for their loving and supportive care.

Visiting hours are on Sunday, March 6th, from 3-6 p.m. at the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bed­ford. Her funeral will be on Monday, March 7, at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Church of Fairhaven, followed by burial in River-side Cemetery.

It is suggested remembrances be made in her name to her church at 34 Centre Street, Fairhaven, MA 02719
