Obituary

SALEM - Philip F. “Babe” Swiniuch, 81, of Salem, died Wednesday morning, March 2, 2016 at the Rosewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Peabody following a brief illness.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Philip L. and Katherine (Jordan) Swiniuch and was a lifelong resident of the city.

A Korean War era Navy Veteran, he served from 1953 to 1957 and attained the rating of Storekeeper - Petty Officer Second Class and served on the USS Travers County, LST-1160.

Prior to his retirement, Babe was employed as a letter carrier out of the Salem Post Office where he was employed for 36 years.

A lifelong parishioner of the St John the Baptist Church Salem, he was an usher for many years. He was a member of the PLAV, Post 55, the DAV, Chapter 84, both of Salem, the American Legion, Massachusetts Post 0624 and the St. Michael’s Society of Peabody.

He is survived by one nephew, Louis A. Swiniuch, Jr of Salem, two nieces, Judith M. and her husband Peter Dore of Salem, Carol and her husband Walter Sikora of Salisbury and two generations of grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by siblings, Louis A. Swiniuch, Sr., Leonard Swiniuch, Caroline Swiniuch and a nephew, Richard Swiniuch.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, March 7, 2016 at 11am at the St. John the Baptist Church, 28 St. Peter St., Salem. Burial will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. There are no visiting hours. Arrangements are by the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem.
