Edward A. Silva, 77, of New Bedford died Wednesday March 2, 2016 surrounded by his family at home after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Geneva M. (Gamboa) Silva.
Born in Providence, RI, the son of the late Anthony J. and Antonia (Xavier) Silva, he lived in Dartmouth for most of his life before moving to New Bedford.
Mr. Silva was formerly employed as a maintenance worker at Berkshire-Hathaway until his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was an avid glass collector and New England Patriots fan.
He is survived by his children, Antone R. Ferreira of New Jersey, Francis Martin of Connecticut, Cora Martin, Antonette Garcia, and Michael Silva, all of New Bedford; his brothers, Joseph Silva of Marion, and Michael Silva and Anthony Silva, Jr., both of New Bedford; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Marie Lopes, and brother of the late Anna Gomes, Frank Silva, and James Silva.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday March 5, 2016 at 2 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, with visitation from 12-2 PM prior to the service. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
