Ron Chegwidden, 79, of Oak View, passed peacefully from this life to the next on Tuesday, March 1st, surrounded by his loving family. Ron was born July 29, 1936 in Morristown, New Jersey.
He graduated from Purdue University in 1957 with a Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering and later earned his Master's Degree from UCSB in computer science. He came to California in 1957 and worked his entire career at Point Mugu Naval Base as a civil servant in their engineering and computer sections.
In early 1961 he met his wife Ila, and they married in November of that same year.
Ron is survived by Ila, his wife of 54 years, their 4 children (Karen, Ron, Lisa, and Scott), 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and his sister Ruth Duncan of Brevard, North Carolina.
Ron had many interests and talents. While at Purdue, he played in their marching band and had his own dance band. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, hiking, rock collecting, and camping with the family. He and Ila enjoyed many trips together over the years and were able to travel to many places including Rome, Paris, Turkey, Australia, and other European Countries. He was an active member within his local community and was an involved, caring father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He and Ila were long term parishioners at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Ojai, where they helped out with many activities and ministries at the church.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas on March 12, at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow. Arrangements are under the care of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME, 757 East Main Street, Ventura.
Ron was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11am Saturday March 8, 2016 in St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, Ojai. Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, Ventura.
