Obituary

NORTH ANDOVER – Helene O. (Schlegel) Scott, 87, beloved wife of the late Donald F. Scott, passed away peacefully Monday evening, February 29, 2016 at the Sutton Hill Nursing Home. Born a Christmas eve baby on December 24, 1928, the daughter of the late Harold and Beatrice (Verreault) Schlegel. Helene was raised in Methuen and graduated from Edward F. Searles High School in 1946. She also attended the MacIntosh Business School where she developed skills to secure her first job in the office at Jersey Ice Cream. While raising her family, Helene held part-time jobs in the offices of Sutherlands and Brooks School, where she later retired in 1982.

Music brought great pleasure to Helene as she was a member of the South Congregational Church choir for decades and a proud participant of the once popular “Valley Singers”; a group of talented ladies who performed at many different venues for a variety of occasions throughout the Merrimack Valley.

Surviving Helene are her three children and their spouses, Barbara (Scott) Janco of Yarmouth, Maine and her husband Joseph, Donna (Scott) Breen of North Andover and her husband Stephen and Christopher Scott of Merrimac and his wife Cathy Catalano Scott; four grandchildren, Abigail (Janco) Martin of New York City and her husband, John Martin, Scott-Joseph Janco of Portland, Maine and his wife Lindsey (Theriault) Janco, Andy Scott and Stephanie Scott of Merrimac and two great granddaughters, identical twins Lucille and Danica Martin of New York City. She is also survived by one sister, Carol (Schlegel) Otto of Methuen and several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend Helene’s funeral service on Friday, March 4, 2016 at 11:00AM at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, 35 Merrimack Street, North Andover, MA. Visitation will be held prior to her service from 10:00 through 11:00AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, Helene may be remembered through donations to the Trinitarian Congregational Church, 72 Elm Street, North Andover, MA 01845.
