Obituary

Alex P. Zawaduk, 94, of Truro died peacefully at home on Sunday, February 28, 2016. His wife of 20 years, Vera (Hirdle) Zawaduk died in 1980.

Born in Lincoln Maine, he was the son of the late Anthony and Nellie (Lada) Zawaduk. Alex left high school before graduation to join the US Army during the Second World War. He participated in the invasion at Normandy on D-Day and served in the European theater for the duration of the war. He was awarded the Bronze Star.

Upon discharge from the service, he earned his GED and then graduated from Northeastern University’s engineering program. He became an Engineer for the Stone and Webster Company in Boston, helping to design many transportation and nuclear building projects. Because of his wife’s ill health, he took an early retirement to care for her. Shortly after her death, he moved to Provincetown and then to Truro, living here for 24 years.

Alex was well known in the area and could often be seen walking his Lab, Tucker on Depot Rd. He will be missed by his many friends.

He leaves a nephew, Russell Zawaduk and his wife Lisa of Truro, with whom he made his home and another nephew, Lee Zawaduk and wife Sheron in Eastham. He was a great uncle to Rochelle Desrosiers of Maine; Bronson Zawaduk of Quincy; Shelby Zawaduk of Los Angles; Ashley Ivey and Eddie Zawaduk, both of New Bedford and Alex Ivey and Kaitlyn Zawaduk, both of Eastham. He was a great, great uncle to Myla Desrosiers. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward and sister, Elexandra Zawaduk.

A Celebration of Alex’ Life will be held Saturday, March 12th at 10:00 AM at the Provincetown United Methodist Church, Shankpainter Rd., Provincetown. Burial will be in Walnut Hills Cemetery, Brookline.
