John Ezra Young, Sr., 98, of Ben Hill County, died Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Thursday, March 3, 2016, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Ronald Cobb, the Rev. Harris Johnson, the Rev. Derrell Hampton, and the Rev. Danny Gay officiating. Interment will follow in Prospect Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Young was born September 4, 1917, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late Sam & Elizabeth Troup Young. He attended Ashton school and was a life-long farmer. He drove a school bus for many years as well. Mr. Young served on the Ben Hill County Board of Education and also on the Ben Hill County FSA Board. He loved to fish and enjoyed the outdoors. Mr. Young was a Mason and a member of Prospect Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was recently named Deacon Emeritus.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ruby Bagley Young of Fitzgerald; children and their spouses: Linda & Wayne Evans and Kenny & Nancy Young, all of Fitzgerald, and Connie & Derrell Hampton of Chula; grandchildren: Alan & Mandy Roberts, Cindy & Brian Dennard, and Jody Young, all of Fitzgerald, Jason & Suzanna Young of Brunswick, Justin & Bonni Young of Adel, and Gail Dorminy of Fitzgerald; and a sister: Ruth & Joel Weeks of Fitzgerald. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John E. “Johnny” Young, Jr.; a grandson, Jerry Roberts; one brother and four sisters.
