Dean Edward Ward, 85, of Fitzgerald, died Monday, February 29, 2016, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, March 6, 2016, at Christian Fellowship with the Rev. Rex Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Saturday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Ward was born August 6, 1930, in Cabool, Missouri, to the late Carl William & Mary Agnes House Ward. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a machine operator in punch and saw for many years in the steel industry working for Kansas City Structural Steel and Central Plains Steel, both in Kansas City, Kansas. He enjoyed watching baseball and football. Mr. Ward was a member of Christian Fellowship.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Judith W. Ward of Fitzgerald; children and their spouses: Bobby & Mary Ward of Kansas City, Kansas, Barbara Gail & Jim Hall of Independence, Missouri, Randy Keith & Melissa Ward of Mt. Dora, Florida, Janice Elaine Chaney of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Larry Stephen Ward of St. Petersburg, Florida; step-children and their spouses: David Earl & Patty Chaney of Ansonia, Connecticut, Constance L. Fry of Lamar, Arkansas, Cheryl Ann & Juan Martinez of Kansas City, Kansas, Rick L. Hansett of Las Vegas, Nevada, and William & Tracy Hansett of Kansas City, Kansas; 76 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one brother, Leon Ward of Raytown, Missouri. IN addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, William Chaney and an infant sister.
