Stanley A. Geddes
Retired Electrical Engineer for Raytheon Corporation
TEWKSBURY: Stanley A. Geddes, age 93, a resident of Tewksbury for 39 years, passed away at D’Youville Senior Care on Monday, February 29, 2016.
He was the beloved husband of Rita A. (O’Brien) Geddes, who passed away on September 17, 2012.
Born in Lowell on May 1, 1922, he was the son of the late John H. Geddes and the late Lena R. (Panton) Geddes.
Stanley was raised in Lowell, attended Lowell schools and graduated from Lowell High School in 1940.
In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during World War II with General Patton’s 3rd Tank Battalion during the campaigns in Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe.
He was awarded numerous decorations for his military service including the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory medal, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with a Bronze Service Star, and the Distinguished Unit Badge.
Prior to his retirement in 1987, he was employed as an Electrical Engineer for the Raytheon Corporation in Bedford, where he worked for 35 years.
Stanley was a communicant and served as an usher at St. William’s Church.
He was a member of several Tewksbury fraternal and civic organizations including the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks # 2070, the Tewksbury Golden Age Club and Senior Drop-In-Center, where he participated in their softball program, and volunteered for their breakfast fundraisers, which earned him the title of “Pancake King”.
Stanley enjoyed playing the clarinet, and was a member of the orchestra that entertained during the 1940 World’s Fair, and a member of the Tewksbury Senior Center music group known as the “Silvertones”.
He also enjoyed golfing, vegetable gardening, and playing tennis.
Stanley is survived by four children, Steven J. Geddes and his wife Marilyn of Parish, FL, Susan J. Southard and her husband Gary of Tewksbury, Kathleen A. Treleaven and her husband James of Ponca City, OK, and Barbara A. Danecki and her husband Daniel of Tewksbury; eight grandchildren, Amy Donato, Jenny Candor, Kerry Mercer, Steven Southard, Carolyn Wisnowski, Matthew Danecki, Eric and Scott Treleaven; thirteen great grandchildren, Michael, Emma and Matthew Donato, Patrick, Christopher, Brianna and Brendan Candor, Charlotte and Myles Wisnowski, Skylar, Brogan and Oliver Southard, and Connor Mercer ; also many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Stanley was the brother of the late Gertrude Atkinson, Frances Gilbride, Arthur, Harold and Henry Geddes( who was killed in action during World War II).
Calling hours are Thursday, March 3, from 4-8 p.m. (G.A.C. Service at 4:30 p.m.), at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral will be held Friday, March 4, at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Stanley’s memory may be made to the Oblate Father’s Infirmary Fund, 486 Chandler St., Tewksbury, MA 01876.
