Robert G. Turner, 88 of Salem, passed away peacefully, Friday, February 26, 2016 at Care One at Peabody with his family by his side. He was the devoted husband of Phyllis A. (Boisvert) Turner, with whom he had shared 53 years of marriage.
Born and raised in East Hartford, CT, he was the son of the late George and Ruth (Hodge) Turner. Robert served with the U.S. Marine Corps at the close of World War II. Following his tour of duty, he returned to E Hartford and worked in the personnel office for the University of Connecticut. He and his family moved to Salem In 1969 when he began working in the financial aid office for Salem State College. He retired from Salem State in 1994.
Robert was a quiet good natured man with a dry sense of humor. He enjoyed reading and sitting outside and enjoying fine weather. He also loved travel and over the years had travelled to Japan, Hawaii, England and France as well as the Panama Canal.
In addition to his wife Phyllis, he is survived by two daughters, Phyllis A. DeYoung of Kingston, NH, Kelly L. Farnsworth and her husband Kevin of Lynn, a son Robert G. Turner, Jr. and his wife Melanie of Los Angeles, CA, his sister, Ethel Turner of E Hartford, CT, a brother George Turner and his wife Blanche of New Hampshire, and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Turner of Manchester, CT. He also leaves 2 grandsons, John Robert & Christopher James DeYoung, as well as nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. with his funeral service to follow at 7:00 P.M. Burial will be private.
