WEBSTER – Stasia B. (Poswiatowski) Zlotnick, 89, of Killdeer Island, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, in St. Clare’s Hospital, Denville, NJ, after a long illness. Her husband of 55 years, Stanley J. Zlotnick, died in 1990.
She leaves two daughters, Barbara Zlotnick-Sanders, Ph.D., and her husband Robert Sanders of Towaco, NJ, and Christine Z. Tafe and her husband David of White Plains, NY; three grandchildren, David Michael Tafe III, Jennifer Stanley Tafe and Stacy Barbara Sanders; a sister, Irene Konkel and her husband Henry of Webster; nephews and nieces, including Judy Dery and Martin Konkel; grandnephews and grandnieces. She was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and Joseph Poswiatowski.
Born in Dudley, she was the daughter of Stanley and Johanna (Szymanska) Poswiatowski. She was a life long resident of Webster..
During World War II, Mrs. Zlotnick worked at Waterhouse Co. and following a short hiatus to raise her daughters returned to work at Bates Shoe Company.
She was active in numerous community and church organizations. She was a past president of the Hubbard Regional Hospital Guild; she served as its treasurer for 17 years and was a Director and Corporator of the guild. Mrs Zlotnick also served as a Corporator of the Webster Five Cents Savings Bank.
Mrs. Zlotnick was a lifelong communicant of St. Joseph Basilica. She was a past president of the St. Joseph Polish Women’s Club, serving as its fourth president in 1959 shortly after the founding of the group. Her special projects included establishing and funding of the St. Joseph School Library. Under her leadership, the club initiated the first Polish Ball, a social event which raised funds for the parish. She continued to chair and serve on numerous committees up to the time of her illness.
Mrs. Zlotnick served as chairperson for the Holy Family League for St. Joseph’s parish and as the Vice-President, District 4, in the State Federation of Polish Women’s Clubs. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality, St. Anne’s Society, Sacred Heart Society, the Friends of St. Joseph School, and a former member of the parish council. She was a cancer survivor of St. Vincent Hospital.
In addition to her community and church work, she enjoyed traveling, making several trips to visit family in Poland, and gaming with friends and family at Foxwoods.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, June 28, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb St. Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace. Calling hours are from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM Monday, June 27, at the funeral home.
